ABOUT THIRD SECTOR CONSULTING

WHAT IS THE "THIRD SECTOR?"

Third Sector Consulting is owned and operated by Susan Lucas.

Susan has experience in Finance and Administration in both the Corporate and Not-For-Profit sectors. Her work in various volunteer positions over the years led to her interest in working permanently in the sector. Susan has been working almost exclusively with Not-For-Profit organisations for the past six years, as both a consultant and in various project management roles.

Key areas of interest are database management, process improvement, fundraising, financial analysis and reporting. Susan is passionate about providing organisations with the capacity-building tools and training necessary for improving their fundraising capabilities, financial administration and reporting, allowing for more informed decision-making. This has led to her interest in GiftWorks, Donor Management Software and the recommendation of solutions utilising this terrific product.

Susan is registered as a Consultant Partner for GiftWorks, and has been invited by Mission Research, makers of GiftWorks, to join the newly formed GiftWorks Consultant Advisory Group.

"An intermediary space between business and government where private energy can be deployed for public good.”  ~J. Joseph~

“Third Sector” is a term that has been coined to denote a very important part of the global economy. If you think of the economy as a whole, and remove the Public Sector (government) and the Business Sector (for-profit), then everything that’s left is the Third Sector. The third sector is a conglomerate of diverse organisations and is often referred to as the “Not-For-Profit Sector," or the “Social Economy.”

It has been estimated that there are approximately 700,000 of these organisations in Australia. The contribution of third sector organisations is substantial but very difficult to measure; it has been estimated that the sector provides around 7.2% of employment and 3.3% of GDP. To put that into perspective, the turnover of our third sector organisations has exceeded that of Australia’s mining industry, and accounts for an expenditure equivalent to the governments of New South Wales and Victoria combined. (Lyons, M. 2001)

The impact of third sector organisations on our communities and society can not be overstated.
